ABINGDON SIMPLY TEST – SALIVA PREGNANCY TEST
The SalistickTM Saliva pregnancy test is an easy-to-use self-test. The test detects the presence of the pregnancy hormone hCG in saliva.
Saliva? Yes, Saliva! No need for a urine sample.
How does it work?
Shortly after the implantation of a fertilized egg, the body begins to produce the hCG hormone doubling in concentration every two days until levels peak around weeks 8-10. Once produced, a proportion of this hCG travels from the blood to the saliva, where it can be detected using the SalistickTM saliva pregnancy test.
This pregnancy test uses lateral flow technology, the exact same principle used by other urine pregnancy tests.
All components required to use the test are provided within the kit. Clear instructions on how to perform the test can be found within the accompanying instructional leaflet and instructional video which can be accessed via the QR code.
This home pregnancy test is manufactured under an internationally recognised quality management system, ISO13485. The test is CE marked and registered with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why test for hCG?
When you are pregnant, your body produces the pregnancy hormone hCG. The amount of hCG in your body increases in the early stages of pregnancy. Using new innovative technology, the SaliStickTM saliva pregnancy test is able to detect this hormone within saliva.
Why saliva?
Saliva samples are hygienic, quick, and easy to collect. Using the SalistickTM saliva pregnancy test, these all-important moments can finally be shared from start to finish.
Will it be accurate?
Yes, the test has been extensively tested against numerous confirmed positive and negative samples and when used as instructed and performed on the first day following your missed period the test has an accuracy of 96.32%.
Time | Accuracy |
One day after missed period | 96.32% |
Two days after missed period | 97.35% |
How soon will a pregnancy test read positive?
We recommend using the SaliStickTM saliva pregnancy test one day after a missed period (when the menstrual period is regular). This is two days after the day of your expected period.
For example, if your period is due on Monday, Tuesday will be the day of your missed period and Wednesday will represent the first day after your missed period. We recommend taking the test on or after Wednesday.
If you are unsure when your next period is due, we recommend performing the test 21 days after you last had unprotected intercourse.
When should I take a pregnancy test?
The test can be performed any time during the day. The test should be performed 30 minutes after drinking or eating.
How do I know I have collected enough Saliva?
The colour indicator on the collection handle will turn blue, confirming enough sample has been collected. Whilst collecting the sample, it is very important not to chew or compress the saliva collection swab.
When can I read the test?
You should read your results within 5-15 minutes from connecting the collection handle to the analytical unit. It is very important that you do not read the results after 15 minutes.
Interpreting the results
POSITIVE
The presence of two pink lines within the results window (both Control and Test region) confirms hCG has been detected.
I HAVE TWO LINES, BUT ONE IS FAINTER THAN THE OTHER, IS IT STILL POSITIVE?
Yes. Appearances can vary, one line can be lighter or fainter than the other however the result should still be interpreted as a positive.
NEGATIVE
One pink line in the results window (control region only) represents a negative result.
INVALID
No control line (control region) appears in the results window.
What do I do if the result is positive?
If hCG has been detected it is likely that you are pregnant. You should speak with your doctor to confirm a positive result (the test does not substitute a doctor’s diagnosis). If you test positive and don’t believe you are pregnant, please consult your doctor. Although rare there are some medical conditions that can cause elevated hCG levels.
What do I do if the result is negative?
If you receive a negative result, it could mean that you are not pregnant or that the hCG levels are below the limit of detection of the test when the test was taken. Put another way, the hCG levels are not yet high enough to be detected. This could be because you have miscalculated the length of your cycle and tested too early or that at the time of testing not enough hCG had been produced. If you do not start your period within two days, you should retest with another test. If upon retesting you get another negative result and your period has still not started, you should consult your doctor.
Can I get a false result?
Yes, as with all tests, it is possible to obtain a false positive result. The most likely cause would be failure to follow the instructions which are supplied with each test kit alongside the instructional video. The test has been extensively tested against several known negative and positive samples and found to give very few false positive results.
About Pregnancy Testing
Home pregnancy testing has become an accepted first step for the detection of early pregnancy. Since its introduction in 1978 , the number of commercially available pregnancy tests has increased dramatically, resulting in these simple to use tests being used by millions around the world. And although improvements have been made, almost all tests today are still based on technology first introduced in 1988; the detection of hCG in urine using a lateral flow assay.
However, recent advancements have enabled the development of SalistickTM, the world’s first ever saliva pregnancy test. Still using lateral flow technology, the test incorporates a unique toolbox of technologies allowing the hCG present within the saliva to be reliably and accurately detected.
Say goodbye to peeing on sticks! For when you need to know, but don’t have to go!
