Abingdon Simply Test – Bowel Health
Abingdon Simply Test – Bowel Health detects Faecal Occult Blood in human stools (poo). Taking only minutes to produce results at home, the test can be performed in a few simple steps. All user components are provided and taking a stool sample is very easy.
The test is an ideal screening tool to check your poo for invisible blood. In the early stages of gastrointestinal problems such as bowel cancer, ulcers, polyps, colitis, diverticulitis, and fissures, obvious symptoms may not be visible. However, blood may be present but not visible to the naked eye.
The accuracy of the test is not affected by the diet of the patient, unlike some other tests available.
Not all cancers or polyps bleed. Additional tests may be needed to determine the source of the bleeding. Consult a doctor if you obtain a positive result or if after receiving a negative result symptoms continue or you have any concerns about your bowel health.
This FOB home test is manufactured under internationally recognised quality management system, ISO 13485.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why monitor FOB with this test?
Symptoms for conditions associated with FOB vary in severity. And because faecal occult blood is not visible to the eye, there is a chance of blood being present in stools for a period of time unknowingly. Regular monitoring allows people to rule-in and rule-out the presence of non-visible blood in stools. Thus supporting insights into their bowel health alongside medical assistance.
When should I test?
Generally you can test at any time of the day. However, it is best to test as fresh a sample as possible.
Accuracy
In clinical evaluation of 464 faeces samples, when comparing with other commercially available FOB tests, the test correctly identified 63 positive samples and 397 negative samples, showing an overall accuracy of 99.1%.
Interpreting Results
Interpreting results is straightforward. The presence of a control (C) line and a test (T) line on the device means your result is positive. If only a control appears it means the sample is negative. Always read the instructions before use. Consult a doctor if you get a positive result or you have concerns about your bowel health.

Faecal Occult Blood (FOB) and Bowel Health
Faecal Occult Blood (FOB) is hidden blood in faeces. Sometimes hidden-blood can be present in stools without any cause for concern. However, in some cases the presence of blood in stools can be the early sign of a number of gastrointestinal problems.
Depending on the condition, there are a range of biological, dietary, lifestyle and environmental reasons as to why someone may have a blood in their stool that could potentially lead gastrointestinal problems. In addition to consultation with a doctor, regular FOB testing can support a self-health regime as well as provide a convenient means for gaining insights into bowel health.
